Cleaning leather

General Advices

Do not use a hard brush for cleaning of a leather material, as it may damage and scratch the surface. If you accidentally spill something on the leather (coffee, tea or wine) you must try immediately to clean it with a soft towel, in order to avoid the liquid soak into the leather.

If you have a purse that got wet from the rain – you should fill it in with a soft paper or newspapers, in order to keep its shape unruined. Leave the purse dry itself for 1-2 days, without placing it near any heaters. In order to prolong the life of the purse and keep it in a good condition up to the next season, you should clean it, dry it and put soft dry paper in it, before storing it. Do not store items made of natural leather in a plastic bags, as in order to keep their good condition, you must let them breathe.

Greasy stains

With removing greasy stains – timing is essential, you should commence cleaning of the grease as soon as possible, so it will be easier for you to remove the stain. The damaged place must be sprinkle with talcum powder and in 20 minutes to be cleaned with a brush. You can also use backing soda and the leftovers must be removed with wet towel. Old greasy stains can be removed with some washing solution. You can soak a piece of cloth in the solution and rub the stain. Then wipe over with wet, clean towel.

Mould Stains

The mould stains can be removed with petrol. If you don’t have petrol, you can also smear some fat and then wipe it over with a mix of vinegar, water and gas in equal proportion and in 10 minutes you need to polish the surface with a wool cloth.

Ink stains

Remember! The ink stains must be cleaned extremely careful and accurate.
Before you start removing the ink stains you should first clean the item form the dust and then apply paraffin contour around the stain in order to prevent the stain from spreading (you can use an ordinary candle). You can prepare a solution of 1 cup of water, 1 tea spoon backing soda, 1 tea spoon of sal ammoniac spirits. You should rub the stain with this solution and once the stains vanish you must wipe the area over with a soft wet towel, in order to remove the left overs of the solution and the paraffin.

Stains of unknown origin

In this case you should try to clean the leather with petrol, lemon juice, red onion or vinegar, that is liquidized in water in a proportion 1:2.

Generally smeared leather

In case the item is heavily polluted, you should add in 1 glass of water a sip of some washing solution and with this liquid you should clean the surface with the help of a soft towel. In order to boost the color of the item you should ass to the soapy solution few drops of 10 percent sal ammoniac spirits and with the solution you’ve got you should clean up the item. The light leather can be cleaned with warm milk, with few drops of vinegar or turpentine added to it.
